Architectural Features

During a development at the University of Sheffield in 2008, GRP Building Products was commissioned to overcome issues surrounding weight bearing and colour matching of rendering. GRP used the latest methods to colour match existing rendering, then applied the finish to fibreglass replicas of stone facades. These could then be easily installed to the new build structures.

This was a new build development with the challenge to provide the character of a Victorian Building. To speed construction and installation times, GRP Building Products was asked to supply grp brick effect window arches and grp door arches, without the time and expense of high level brick laying skills and cutting required to use real arches.

A new build property developer needed to increase the speed of building window dormer units onto properties. GRP Building Products designed and managed the off-site construction of waterproof grp lead effect window dormer units and supplied to the site. Installation on-site took minutes per dormer.

In order to speed construction and installation times, this leading UK housebuilder commissioned the supply of grp brick effect window arches for use on a development in Cardiff. Grp brick effect arches are a more exclusive alternative to heavy and easily damaged reconstituted stone arches which are so commonplace in modern house construction.

In 2009, a domestic home building contractor contacted GRP Building Products to produce and provide grp brick effect window arches and grp brick effect sills for use on a new build housing development in Kinver. Off-site construction of the grp replica products enabled the brick effect window arches and sills to installed within minutes of delivery.

GRP Building Products was contacted by Fileturn to provide a fast solution to a building project. One of The Real Greek restaurant chain locations in London underwent a refurbishment in 2008 and needed a supplier to manufacture and deliver grp products in a short time span. Working from architectural drawings, GRP colour matched the existing render on a brick wall then provided render finished grp walls and grp bench seating in sections to be installed on-site. The on-site installation of all grp products took around 5 hours.

As real stone was deemed unsuitable owing to weight and installation restrictions, a lightweight replication of stone was required for an 8 floor multi-storey car park in Belfast. In 2009, GRP Building Products were asked to produce and supply grp stone effect cornices, grp stringcourses, grp arches and grp keystones for a building project, working from architect's technical drawings. The resulting material provided savings in production time, weight and installation.

The owners of this Grade 2 listed building commissioned GRP Building Products to produce and replace the original lead box guttering and square downspouts. The age of the building meant that a lightweight, lead effect replacement was needed. GRP produced bespoke replacement materials which were then finished with an effect to replicate the age of original and existing material.

During the conversion of a domestic period house in 2009, GRP Building Products were commissioned to provide a solution to disguise unsightly air conditioning unit covers. The resulting grp housing unit covers have been produced in a lead effect finish to complement existing architectural features of the property.

Off-site construction of the grp replica products enabled installation onsite to take minutes per feature.

The weight of real stone at a property development at Higford Hall College created some installation problems. GRP Building Products were asked to provide a number of grp stone effect replica products to provide a lightweight, cost effective alternative to the use of real stone.

Following a fire at a primary school in the Midlands, GRP Building Products were commissioned to design and fabricate a replacement bronze and lead effect grp pergola. The material was provided to an onsite building contractor for installation.

A UPVC manufacturer contacted GRP Building Products to investigate the possibility of using grp slate effect roof panels as part of the construction of a UPVC summerhouse. The lightweight, durable and versatile properties of grp made it an ideal solution.

This sports centre of excellence commissioned GRP Building Products to replace an original stone gargoyle that had become weathered and lost its features. From a mould casting GRP designed and produced a replica gargoyle which was then fitted over the top of the original feature, avoidiing the disruption that would be caused to the building by the removal of an original 60cm supporting lead pin. The feature was finished in replica aged sandstone effect providing a perfect match to the existing material.

A lightweight, cost effective bespoke door canopy was needed at an independent school in Yorkshire, as a replacement for the original canopy.  GRP Building Products was commissioned to manufacture and supply the structure, from technical drawings, to a local contractor for installation.
